He also needs to provide proof that he is entitled to health care in his country of origin, with a valid EHIC and E106, or an E121 if he is a State Pensioner, so that the cost of his care can be recouped from that country. E106
People who have not reached pension age and who have been paying full national insurance in their country of origin should apply for an E106 before they leave to come to live in Spain. It will entitle them to full health care for its period of validity ( up to 2 years ). It must first be registered at the local INSS office and shown whenever using medical services. Prescriptions are not covered, unless in hospital. When it runs out, they must obtain private medical insurance until they reach state pension age, or they will have to pay for treatment.
